Last summer, just after RE/DONE first launched, one of our founders, Jamie Mazur, read that Elsa Hosk was a total vintage denim fanatic. Born and raised in Stockholm, she had spent her formative years tinkering with vintage denim pieces that she had scored at flea markets. Elsa’s love of fashion was nurtured from an early age when she began modeling at14 and just this spring, she was named as one of Victoria’s Secret’s newest Angels.
Jamie immediately wanted to get in contact with her – what could be more perfect than making a RE/DONE jean with a supermodel who shared our passion for vintage denim? But after a few attempts to reach out, and nothing to show for them, he gave up.
However, it was just a few weeks later that Elsa, unaware of Jamie’s efforts to contact her, landed on the RE/DONE website. As if it was meant to be, she ended up buying a pair of jeans for herself. Jamie could not believe his eyes when he saw her order pop-up. In a totally not stalker-ish way, he reached out to her using the information she had provided from her order. After swapping stories of their best flea market finds and other adventures in vintage, Jamie broached the idea of creating a jean together.
The Elsa is the materialization of Elsa’s vision for the perfect vintage jean. Extending down from a belly button obscuring high-rise, to a floor grazing baby-bell, the Elsa creates the longest leg silhouette one could possibly have. One doesn’t need to look far to see where the inspiration for the jean came from: its leggy Swedish namesake.
The Elsa campaign was shot on location in Turks and Caicos by New York based photographer, Sam Crawford and styled by Alison Malter.
