We join Ève and Arnaud of ODA Paris in presenting an edit of rare, mid-century pieces for the home. They began as a vintage home goods vendor at one of France’s most respected Flea Markets, Marché Paul Bert in Saint-Ouen. Now, the duo seeks to create atmospheres and find objects that recollect a juxtaposition of contexts, spaces, and elements evoking emotion and fostering new memories.

The Faïencerie Saint-Clément ceramic factory was founded in 1758 by Jacques Chambrette. This new establishment was devoted to high-end, prestigious pieces and was appointed the official supplier of the Trianon under Marie-Antoinette. The Saint-Clément facility is the oldest French faïencerie still in activity.

This vase is characteristic of 50s, French ceramics. During that era, France underwent a ceramic renaissance. The conformism that had previously prevailed was being pushed aside by whimsical art, breaking free of rules. An abundance of innovative shapes, colors, and styles appeared, largely influenced by the arrival of Picasso in the late 1940s. The new-found freedom of the era can be seen expressed on this vase through the geometric textures and patterns. The flared shape, soft lines, matte coloring, and yellow interior reference the fashionable “Riviera” spirit that traveled throughout France in the 1950s.
